Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, formally left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress at a large rally in Asaba on 28 April 2025. They were received into the party by Vice President Kashim Shettima, then-APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and Governor Hope Uzodimma, among other party leaders. The move brought Delta's deputy governor, several commissioners and local government chairmen into the APC fold, marking one of the most significant defections of the year and extending the ruling party's reach into the South-South.
