The APC's National Executive Committee ratified Nentawe Yilwatda as the party's new National Chairman on 24 July 2025, making him the seventh person to lead the APC since its formation thirteen years earlier. Yilwatda, a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, took over the party's leadership as it worked through a wave of defections from opposition parties and prepared for ward, local government and state congresses ahead of the 2027 general election.
