The tax reform package President Tinubu signed into law in June 2025 — the Nigeria Tax Act, Nigeria Tax Administration Act, Nigeria Revenue Service Act and Joint Revenue Board Act — formally took effect on 1 January 2026. The new framework replaces the former FIRS with a single Nigeria Revenue Service, consolidates a patchwork of overlapping levies into a simplified national code, and is designed to widen the tax base and grow non-oil revenue while easing compliance for small businesses.
