Nigeria Wins $2.35bn Mambilla Power Arbitration Case
An International Chamber of Commerce arbitration tribunal in Paris ruled decisively in Nigeria's favour on 17 September 2026, dismissing a $2.35 billion claim brought by Sunrise Power and Transmission Company over the long-stalled Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project in Taraba State. The tribunal also ordered Sunrise Power and its promoter to refund the bulk of Nigeria's $11.8 million legal costs. President Tinubu described the ruling as clearing the single biggest legal hurdle that had paralysed the 3,960-megawatt project for more than two decades, opening the way for construction to proceed on what would be Nigeria's largest hydropower plant.
