President Tinubu signed four tax reform bills into law at the State House in Abuja on 26 June 2025: the Nigeria Tax Act, the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, the Nigeria Revenue Service Act, and the Joint Revenue Board Act. The overhaul consolidates dozens of overlapping levies into a simplified national tax framework and creates a single revenue service to replace the former FIRS. The new regime, which took effect on 1 January 2026, is designed to widen the tax net, ease compliance for small businesses, and boost non-oil revenue without raising the burden on low-income earners.
