Tinubu's Independence Day Address Touts Fastest GDP Growth in Four Years
In his address marking Nigeria's 65th Independence anniversary on 1 October 2025, President Tinubu highlighted economic gains from his first 28 months in office, including GDP growth of 4.23% in the second quarter — the fastest pace in four years — and inflation easing to 20.12% in August, its lowest level in three years. He cited non-oil revenue exceeding ₦20 trillion by August, a debt-service-to-revenue ratio cut from 97% to below 50%, and oil production recovering to 1.68 million barrels per day. The president also pointed to the country refining petrol domestically for the first time in four decades, crediting the reforms to the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates.
